Cycle to Work

Cycle to Work – Ride to Work with Cycle King

Save 25%–39% on a new bike and spread the cost using the UK’s Cycle to Work scheme. Cycle King proudly accepts ALL Cycle to Work providers, including: Cyclescheme, Green Commute Initiative, Bike2Work Scheme, Vivup, Halfords Cycle2Work, Caboodle, Cycle Solutions and many more.

What is the Cycle to Work scheme and how does it work?

The Cycle to Work scheme is an employee benefit that allows you to get a bike and/or accessories through a salary sacrifice arrangement.

You agree to give up part of your salary in exchange for the benefit. Payments are taken from your gross salary (before tax and NI), meaning you save money every month.

There is no credit check to join. Many schemes also allow under-18s with a guarantor, and being on probation normally doesn’t affect eligibility.

Check with your employer if unsure or if you wish to apply.

How can I save using the Cycle to Work scheme?

Step 1 – Get your voucher/certificate
Apply through your employer’s chosen Cycle to Work provider. (We accept all providers)

Step 2 – Choose your items
Select your bike, clothing, equipment and accessories – anything required to help you commute safely and comfortably.

Step 3 – Check out using your voucher (Cycle Scheme Only)
Shop as normal with Cycle King and choose your scheme provider as the payment option. Use as much of your certificate value as possible – unused value cannot usually be carried forward.

Step 4 – Enter your voucher or redemption codes
Enter your scheme’s unique code(s) at checkout or provide them in-store. We’ll validate your voucher with your provider.

Step 5 – Order confirmation
Once approved, we’ll process your order. You’ll be notified when your bike is ready for collection or when it has been dispatched.

Customer Notice:

If your employer uses a
provider other than "Cycle Scheme", don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly at info@cycleking.co.uk, and we will process your voucher for you. Cycle King accepts all Cycle to Work providers.

Your provider’s website may also include a savings calculator to estimate how much you could save based on your salary.

Cycle to Work – common questions

What can I get through the scheme?

Any bike or e-bike with at least two wheels, plus most essential commuting accessories, including helmets, locks, lights, clothing and more.

Is there a spending limit?

Many employers offer no upper limit. Some providers (e.g., GCI) specialise in high-value e-bikes. Always check with your employer first.

Can I add my own money on top?

No. UK Government guidance requires the entire order value to be covered by the voucher. Personal top-ups are not permitted.

Can I change items after applying?

No. Once your voucher is issued, items and order value cannot be amended. Include everything you need (including delivery if applicable) when applying.

How long does approval take?

Once you place your order and submit your voucher, approval usually takes 24 hours — sometimes slightly longer, depending on the provider.

Do I have to commute every day?

No. Technically, at least 50% of rides should be for work-related journeys, but the rest can be leisure.

How do the savings work?

Payments come from your gross salary. Your taxable income is reduced, lowering the tax and NI you pay — this difference is your saving.

How often can I apply?

Most employers allow one application every 12 months.

Can I get more than one bike?

Usually yes — often up to two bikes on the same voucher, as long as both are for you and used mainly for commuting.

Should I include delivery?

Yes. Delivery costs must be included within the voucher amount.

Are any items excluded?

Some non-essential electronics (e.g., GPS computers, advanced ride trackers) may be excluded depending on your provider. If excluded items are in your basket, the scheme payment option will not work.
